Cloud Spectator Puts Expedient’s Virtual Machines to the Test


Regional cloud provider, Expedient, outperformed national cloud heavyweights in 12 out of 17 benchmark tests

Over a period of 15 days, Cloud Spectator measured the performance of Expedient’s virtual machines against comparable offerings from Amazon and Rackspace.

In their recently released report, the Cloud Spectator revealed that the regional cloud hosting provider, Expedient, outperformed national cloud providers, Amazon and Rackspace, in 12 out of 17 benchmark tests.

How was performance measured?

While other factors, such as security and support, do play an essential role in choosing a cloud provider, the Cloud Spectator “chose to focus objectively on performance to derive numerical relationships between the levels of service delivered from each provider." By basing their analysis exclusively on performance, the Cloud Spectator discovered that Expedient was able to consistently outperform Rackspace and Amazon in four key categories:

  • CPU Performance: Expedient outperformed both Amazon And Rackspace in 5 out of 5 CPU tests
  • RAM Performance: Expedient outperformed both Amazon and Rackspace in 4 out of 4 RAM tests
  • Internal Network Performance: Expedient had the highest network throughput speeds and stability
  • Disk Performance: Expedient outperformed Amazon in 6 out of 6 disk tests
